Sights of Rügen that not everyone knows
Neuefähr or Neufährschanze
Nowadays, it is often called the Prosnitz Schanze (Prosnitz Schanze), a historic fortress and ferry crossing on the island of Rügen. It played an important role in the military conflicts of the 17th century, particularly during Swedish rule over Rügen and in the context of the wars between Sweden, Denmark, and Brandenburg-Prussia.
A map of the “Neven Vehr” (Neuefähr) on Rügen existed as early as 1630, underscoring the strategic importance of this site. The Schanze was originally built by imperial troops and later used by the Swedes.
As of 2025, one can only guess how massive the fortress was.
